Viaggio verso Altea
Altea is an idyllic small town in Alicante province, located in southeastern Spain. The town is situated along the Mediterranean coast (Costa Blanca) between the towns of Benidorm and Calp, approximately 10 km from each.
The old part of Altea can be described as a labyrinth of narrow, winding cobblestone streets, where glimpses of the Costa Blanca can be caught between buildings. The church La Mare de Déu del Consol is located here, notable for its picturesque blue and white tiled domes. There are many fine restaurants nearby, several offering views of the Mediterranean.
Other attractions include the promenade at Altea Beach and the marina. Along the promenade, large palm trees and rubber plants provide shade. Across the street, you'll find several restaurants, cafes, and shops. The beach offers a playground and climbing tower for children, and adults can enjoy beach volleyball.
Beaches in the Area
Altea Beach is centrally located in the town and is about 1.5 km long. This beach features fine sand, is wide, and typically has calm waters. On the outskirts of town, the Algar River meets the sea, and nearby is a smaller beach called Cap Negret, where surfing and kitesurfing are popular.
There are several beaches outside Altea. Two of them are Platja L'Olla Beach and Solsida Beach, which are pebbly. Unlike the beaches in nearby towns (Benidorm and Calp), the beaches in and around Altea remain relatively uncrowded, even in summer. This makes it easy to find a private spot in the sun and engage in various water sports and activities.
Excursions and Activities
Altea is beautifully surrounded by several high mountains. To the north, you can see the rock formations Morro de Toix and Serra Bernia. To the south are the cliffs of Puig Campana and the areas of Parque Natural de Serra Gelada. These sites are perfect for day trips, hiking to viewpoints, and enjoying stunning coastal views.
Altea la Vella, the oldest part in the Altea area, is beautifully located between the sea and the mountains, about 3.5 km from the harbor. What makes this place an interesting excursion destination is its culinary culture and the friendly atmosphere. Nearby is the Club de Golf Don Cayo, the area's oldest golf course with 9 holes set in beautiful scenery.
