Stafford is located in Staffordshire in the western part of England, beside the River Sow. The town was established by Ethelfleda, daughter of Alfred the Great and Queen of Mercia (Lady of the Mercians) in the year 913. Stafford Castle, built in 1090, has been rebuilt and restored over the years. The castle features a visitor center with audio installations, medieval artifacts, and tools. Outside, there is an ancient herb garden, and every summer, a Shakespeare production is staged in the castle grounds. The castle is a landmark of Stafford and can be seen from the M6 motorway. Other attractions in the town include the Shire Hall, British Wildlife Rescue Centre, Broad Eye Windmill, Ingestre Hall, and Mill Meece Pumping Station.
